On July 30th, Bennett had his tonsils out. Aside from some serious separation trauma from the nurses taking him away from us to go to surgery, he did relatively well. The surgery was super fast! I mean, no sooner than we were in the waiting room, me trying to enjoy a cup of coffee, Dr. Black was back out reporting that he was done and Bennett was in recovery waking up and that we should meet him in him room. When we checked in, we were given a code number that would allow us to keep track of Bennett's progress through the surgery procedure. So in the waiting room, there was a tv that showed his progress through pre-op, surgery, post-op, recovery, etc., our code number changed colors. It was very high-tech. Anyway, the actual surgery seriously MIGHT have been 20 minutes. I was expecting at least 30. So. We get to his room, and he is sitting up in the bed riding down the hall with the attendant, looking kind of confused, but still very groggy. Of course he has a drip in his hand, which he didn't like at all. He got back to the room in time for lunch, and he did pretty well eating. He ate a popcicle and my broccoli off of my "guest plate". It was a pretty laid back day with lots of napping and sipping on juice and even a few popcicles. We slept OK, but were very glad to get home, and luckily, Dr. Black made early rounds and we were home by 9am. Overall, the week went well. McKinley's friend, Lakyn came to pick her up for school each morning and even picked her up in the afternoons (thanks, Sarah), so that Bennett could sleep as much as he would. The weekend proved the worse, as it is about the time that the scabs come off. He was quite unhappy most of Friday and Saturday, but Sunday, he actually acted and ate almost normal. Since then he has been full force with no problems. It is amazing how much better he is sleeping and NOT SNORING! Even that first night in the hospital, I was amazed at the difference, especially how peaceful he looked sleeping. We go tomorrow for our post-op visit, and I am sure he will give us our release.
